Teenagers are not immune from joint pain. However, the causes of joint pain in teenagers should be looked at carefully. Quite often ‘growing pains’ can mimic joint pain experiences by older adults, especially in the knee area. Active teenage boys often get what feels like joint pain in their knee. More often than not this is Osgood-Schlatter disease. Until your teen, or even pre-teen, stops growing this may stay with him or her. This is an overuse problem and can be cured, though not often adhered to, by limiting activity. Most athletes experiencing this problem find it hard to limit their activity.
