For many suffering from joint pain, the last thing that they want to do is exercise. The thought itself sounds painful. When your body is in so much pain at rest, it’s hard to imagine that it can endure hard work. The problem is, however, that suffering from joint pain / arthritis can be greatly improved by exercising. Not random exercising to achieve specific relief, but rather consistent exercise. Most people erroneously believe that this needs to include running miles or an excruciating workout. The reality is that engaging in ‘gentle’ workouts and gentle stretching can dramatically improve joint pain. So give exercise another look to achieve relief.

This is one of the biggest urban legends about joint pain. One has to wonder, does frequent cracking of joints, like knuckles actually cause arthritis or is it an old wive’s tale? Most studies out now believe that cracking your joints is not a significant cause of joint pain. In fact, many doctors believe that when you crack a joint you are not doing any harm at all. It’s possible, however, if your joint cracking is surrounded by pain, it may be a symptom of a larger problem that you should have addressed. There will many people who will argue vehemently with you that joint pain is caused by cracking knuckles, but nothing supports that conclusion.

If you are part of the 1 in 6 Americans suffering from joint pain due to arthritis, you may want to consider a moderate exercise routine. We’re not talking running 5 miles here, but a nice 30-minute, 5 days per week routine. Many people suffering from joint pain do not feel that they are in a ‘condition’ well enough to exercise. There is a real fear that exercise will only exerbate existing joint pain or cause new joint pain. These are dangerous assumptions, though, because the reality is that a moderate exercise plan can actually reduce joint pain over time.
